Lesson Description:

Students will draw a more complex object with contour line technique for their last line study project.   For this lesson, students will be drawing shoes, preferably an old leather shoe.  Shoes are perfect object for the contour line drawing practice.  They have solid form for students to describe 3 dimensional mass, yet the shape is simple enough for the beginners.  On top of that, the shoe tends to have rich details.  For example, aged leather shoes have many wrinkles and folds from being worn out.  To successfully describe these details, students would have to carefully maneuver the line quality by drawing deliberately.

Student Objectives:

Main Objective :

The students will utilize contour line drawing technique to draw a leather shoes.

Subsidiary Objective :

The students will deliberately control the line quality according to the texture, and shape of the shoes.

The students will use elongated contour lines.

The students will create a sense of 3-dimensional form by using lines.

The students will point out details of the shoe

Lesson Procedure:

    1. Introduction
      The teacher will introduce the project.  During the introduction, the teacher will show a teacher sample to give visual example of expectation for this project.
    1. Review
      Teacher will briefly introduce the daily plans and go over what the contour line is / should be as a review. After the quick review on contour line, students will be asked to pick out a leather shoe from the basket and draw it using contour line.  During the review, the teacher will point out importance of drawing slow yet deliverately.
  1. Production
    Students will choose a shoe from the shoe basket and start to work on their shoes.
