Microsoft opens own social network, Socl - meachamdiesse

Does the human race really involve another multiethnic network?

Microsoft thinks so. The company on Midweek opened up registration for its new project, the with competence named Socl, to users with Microsoft and Facebook accounts. Socl launched last year only was in of import for Microsoft employees and college students until Wednesday.

Socl isn't exactly a longstanding social network. It's more the like Pinterest than Facebook as its landing place pageboy is filled with photo collages. (This is a shift; the site's original design was in spades inferior image-heavy.) Socl was born from Microsoft Research FUSE Labs' research into multiethnic search for students.

Now, anyone can sign up for the land site and find pleased either generated every which wa on Socl's home page or do a Bing-powered search by topic. To create a Emily Post, you can pull content from other parts of the Web—photos, videos, links, etc.—and the situation puts together a collage for you.

You can "riff" or comment on others' posts and share related links and images. Your profile Page is a gallery of the posts you've created and the interests and people you follow–zero wall posts or 140-character bon mots here.

The emphasis is little on friends than capacity. If you sign in using your Facebook login information, Socl will find your Facebook friends, but the site encourages you to explore and get in touch with others based on common interests and posts you like.

Facebook competitor?

Just about in the blogosphere have questioned whether Microsoft is nerve-racking to compete with Facebook, but Socl isn't much like Facebook at all. Like Pinterest, Microsoft's new web seems like a square style to desolate a few hours browsing random photos and links rather than a tool to communicate with friends.

And Microsoft acknowledges Socl's limitations. On the site's Or so pageboy, the company says Socl is non designed to compete with the established social networks, but is instead an "experimental research project with a minimal place of features."

Microsoft is attempting to create a unified, thwart-platform ecosystem that extends across hardware (its Aerofoil tablets) and software (Windows 8) to search engines (Bing) and, like a sho, its own social network. The company is experimenting with viral ad campaigns and Chirrup stunts.

Merely, the question remains: Can the company shed its hand-down-designed image and enter a new era in technology governed by touch and social? That answer could hinge on Socl's success.
